Joe Fusaro is an American artist and educator living and working in New York.  

He is the director of the Nyack Teacher Center, where he has served since 2022, and is also an adjunct professor for New York University’s graduate program in Art and Art Professions since 2008.  

Previously, Fusaro served as the senior education advisor for Art21, producers of the award-winning PBS series, Art in the Twenty-First Century, from 2008 through 2025. At Art21, in addition to his work creating the organization’s education resources and writing articles about contemporary art education, he was one of the founders of the popular Art21 Educators program, which held its first annual summer institute in New York City in 2009.

Fusaro taught in the New York City public schools from 1990-2003, and then served as visual arts department chair for the Nyack Public Schools in New York from 2003-2022.  

Joe has facilitated workshops and professional development sessions about teaching with contemporary art, as well as mentoring new teachers, at schools, universities, and museums across the United States, and has written about approaches to teaching with contemporary art. This includes the most recent book by Davis Publishing, The Visual Experience.
